Southern Baptist Convention

“We can do more together than we can do apart.” This statement is at the heart of what it means to be a Southern Baptist. This reality becomes ever clearer when you attend the annual Southern Baptist Convention. I had the special privilege of attending this year’s Convention held in Indianapolis on June 11-12. I believe my first Convention was in Indianapolis in 1992. I find it to be a true blessing to see and hear reports from all the organizations of the SBC. I believe that there were over 10,000 messengers present this year.

The exhibit hall featured a remarkable display dedicated to Lottie Moon, complete with her original letters and a life-sized portrait. Despite her small stature, her legacy looms large, as 100% of the offerings collected in her honor during Christmas directly support commissioned IMB missionaries.

Every church within the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) is entitled to send messengers to the Convention. These churches must hold a vote to authorize representatives for this purpose. Messengers are required to present verification of their credentials, such as a letter from their church confirming their authorization.

Should you be interested, the meeting next year will take place in Dallas, TX, on June 10-11, 2025. The subsequent meetings will be held in Orlando in 2026, Salt Lake City in 2027, and will return to Indianapolis in 2028.

The number of exhibits in the exhibit hall were quite impressive!
